Bitterroot Subcommittee

Proposal for Organization and Activities

Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee
Bitterroot Ecosystem Information & Education Subcommittee
Proposal for Organization and Activities
January 4, 2007

Subcommittee:

  • Julie Schrek – Chair Bitterroot National forest
  • Vivica Crowsser MT Fish, Wildlife & Parks
  • Mike Demick ID Fish & Game
  • Damien Miller US Fish & Wildllife Service
  • Tom Reilly Clearwater National Forest

Purpose:

The purpose of the Bitterroot Ecosystem Information and Education (BE I&E) Subcommittee is to coordinate internal and external public communication messages, issues, strategies and implementation methods between the ecosystems and to help communicate them to the public, media, and other concerned parties. The BE I&E Subcommittee works through the Information and Education subcommittees of the grizzly bear ecosystems. It does not replace or compete with the ecosystem I&E Subcommittees. On some issues, as directed by the IGBC Executive Committee, the BE I&E Subcommittee may serve as the point of contact for the IGBC.

Organization:

The IGBC I&E Subcommittee is comprised of I&E subcommittee chairs for each grizzly bear ecosystem. The IGBC Executive Assistant serves as the liaison between the subcommittee and the IGBC Executive Committee. The BE I&E Subcommittee will select a chair among its members who will serve a three-year term commencing at the close of the meeting at which the selection is made.

Duties of the Chair:

The chair will be responsible for working closely with the IGBC Executive Assistant to communicate with the IGBC Executive Committee on media-related issues, schedule and conduct IGBC I&E Subcommittee meetings, develop and follow agendas and to communicate and coordinate with the I&E committees for each grizzly bear ecosystem. The IGBC I&E Subcommittee will develop and encourage IGBC I&E working groups to complete specific IGBC-related tasks in communication and coordination with the Ecosystem I&E subcommittees. The chair or representative will report annually to the IGBC Executive Committee on the subcommittee’s activities during the winter meeting of the IGBC.

Tasks of the IGBC I&E Subcommittee:

The IGBC I&E Subcommittee will serve a coordinating and reviewing role between the ecosystem subcommittees to promote sharing of knowledge and experience, economy of scale in product development and purchase, and I&E support to the IGBC and the ecosystem subcommittees on issues that transcend ecosystem boundaries or responsibilities. The IGBC I&E Subcommittee will work with and through the ecosystem I&E subcommittees and the IGBC Executive Assistant to encourage ecosystems to undertake I&E tasks that reflect both the IGBC priorities and the needs of the ecosystems.

Tasks of the ecosystem I&E subcommittees:

Ecosystem I&E subcommittees will be responsible for identifying and implementing I&E projects and activities within their respective ecosystems that reflect the identified priorities of the IGBC and meet the needs of their ecosystem. The chair of each ecosystem I&E subcommittee will serve as the representative of their ecosystem I&E subcommittee on the IGBC I&E Subcommittee.
